Out of 12 nations that set off for the women football sport only eight teams have qualified for the Rio 2016 Summer Olympics quarter finals and are meeting on August 12th. Host Brazil is meeting for a semifinal slot with Australia; while USA and Sweden have a quarter final match on the same day.

China and Germany will be fighting for a Rio 2016 Summer Olympics women football semifinal slot, while the last of the Rio 2016 Summer Olympics women football quarter final match will be between Canada and Germany. All the quarter final matches will take place on the 12th of August.

Four Nations did not go past the Rio 2016 Summer Olympics Women football preliminaries. These are South Africa and Zimbabwe; both from Africa. What this means is that Africa will not have any more team to advance at the Rio 2016 Summer Olympics women football. Colombia and New Zealand also did not get to the knock out stage; quarter finals.
