Rio 2016 Summer Olympics Synchronized Swimming List of Qualified Nations and Swimmers

The Rio 2016 Summer Olympics Synchronized Swimming is taking place from the 15th to the 20th of August. One hundred and four (104) synchronized swimmers from 24 nations across the world’s five continents are competing for the sports two gold medals at the Barra da Tijuca’s Maria Lenk Aquatic Center.

But which are these nations that have qualified for the Rio 2016 Summer Olympics Synchronized Swimming and how did these 24 nations clinch these slots? See the list of all the nations that have qualified and are taking part at the Rio 2016 Summer Olympics synchronized swimming sport.

How America nations qualified for the Rio 2016 Summer Olympics Synchronized Swimming

Brazil did not get its slot by default i.e. because it is the 2016 Summer Olympics host. Brazil is the Pan American Synchronized Swimming champion in both Duet and Team events.

Brazil is the only American nation participating at the Rio 2016 Summer Olympics Synchronized Swimming team event. Other nations that joined from Pan American championship are Argentina, USA, Canada and Colombia and each have two synchronized swimmers taking part at the Rio Olympics.

Except for Brazil all the other America’s countries are featuring only in synchronized swimming duet events.

The 2015 Pan American Games took place in Canada’s Toronto City from 9th to 11th of July 2015; this is the championship that saw the South American nations qualify for the Rio 2016 Summer Olympics Synchronized Swimming Sport.

How Europe nations qualified for the Rio 2016 Summer Olympics Synchronized Swimming

To qualify for the Rio 2016 Summer Olympics Synchronized Swimming, Europeans teams had two opportunities.

The continental team qualification championship that saw Russia take one of the slot for Synchronized Swimming team event as the Europe’s champion.

By the virtue of qualifying top of the team events, Russia got the duet slot. Ukraine and Italy also got their ticket to the Rio 2016 Summer Olympics Synchronized Swimming team and duet slots.

Both Italy and Ukraine secured their slots at the 206 Olympics qualifying tournaments held in Rio de Janeiro from May 2nd to May 6th.

How Africa, Asia and Oceania nations qualified for the Rio 2016 Summer Olympics Synchronized Swimming

It was in 206 Olympics qualifying tournaments held in Rio de Janeiro from May 2nd to May 6th that saw Japan qualified for both Rio 2016 Summer Olympics Synchronized Swimming team and duet events to represent Asia continent.

China as the Asia’s champion qualified for both Duet and Team events at the Kazan’s Asia’s continental selection competition, the same sporting competition that saw Egypt as an African representative champion.

Australia; Oceania champion qualify for the Duet and Team events in the same tournament.

South Africa could have been in the list as it had qualified as African champion, but declined the slot and hence Egypt’s to the opportunity.

Duets 7 European nations shown in the table above qualified for duet at the Rio’s Olympics Qualifying Tournament.

This is the same for Americas; Mexico, USA, Colombia and Argentina.

Israel and Kazakhstan will represent Asia and qualified for duet at the Rio de Janeiro May event.

16 nations have sent 2 duet synchronized swimmers only, while 8 teams have sent a 9 synchronized swimmers for the team event.
